PLYWOOD TABLE
REVEALING PLYWOOD’S INNER BEAUTY
The Plywood Table is an exploration that pushes preconceptions about the use and aesthetic quality of plywood. The design was born out of a desire to use only found materials with minimal fasteners in the final construction. Scrap plywood was an easily found material with a variety of veneer finishes. The Plywood Table celebrates the layered quality of plywood edges along with finish veneers we are accustomed to seeing.

SKETCH MODELS
Initial exploration looked at trivets as a smaller scale model to test methods that would inform the table. Sketch models highlighted different expressions of the structure in the appearance of the table. Through this, the project's method of joining was developed. Half-lap joints were then utilized in all aspects of the table's structure.
FABRICATION
The entire table was made from found plywood in the wood shop scrap bin. The scavenged nature of the materials did not detract from showcasing the unique qualities of plywood. The actual tabletop pattern developed organically during construction to reveal the underlying structure.
FINAL TABLE
The final table showcases the beauty of plywood in a glueless, easily deconstructed piece of furniture. The Paper Doll Table was included in the student work showcase for the architecture school's re-accreditation process in 2014.
